Wilde Lieder Marx.Music
The Wilde Lieder Marx.Music international call for scores received over seventy anonymised entries from 16 countries across the world, reflecting Marx’s life, his insights and future perspectives. Eight winners were selected by a British – German jury across three categories of ensemble, duo and soundart. They were premiered in the city where Karl Marx was born 200 years ago; Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, patron of the project Dr. Katarina Barley, presented prize money totalling 16.500 Euro. Another six works have been commissioned by the City of Trier and BCMG’s Sound Investment Scheme following the same ideas; repeat performances in Birmingham and London followed, as well as broadcasting of the radiophonic works, and installations in Trier and London (V&A).
This album brings together the commissioned works, performing by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) with soloists Elizabeth Atherton, Salome Kammer, Marcus Farnsworth, Markus Schwind and conductor Michael Wendeberg. It was recorded by SWR2 in Trier on 1-2 September 2018
